PRESS RELEASE - BORNEO, MALAYSIA
SOS RHINO AND WWF MALAYSIA COLLABORATE ON CONSERVATION GOALS
May 15, 2001
SOS Rhino and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Malaysia have
recently agreed to collaborate in working toward the common goal
of wildlife conservation in Sabah, in particular the Sumatran rhinoceros
and Asian elephant, and to assist the Sabah Wildlife Department
in achieving conservation goals for these species.
Their collaboration will include joint training, the sharing of
information, equipment, and staff resources, and the exchange of
regular progress reports and communications. SOS Rhino and WWF will
work together to raise awareness among the public and other organizations
through various means about the conservation needs of wildlife in
Sabah.
By such means they trust that other wildlife, both plants and animals,
will benefit from the attention given to these flagship species,
and that these benefits will accrue for the future enjoyment of
the people of Sabah and the world.
Dr. Nan Schaffer, president of SOS Rhino, said, "We are fortunate
to be able to assist the Sabah Wildlife Department and WWF in their
work to preserve the ecology and wildlife. We want to help them
to make a difference."
