NAIROBI, May 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Kenya's rhino population now stands at 568, registering an increase of 25 percent comparing with that of the last decade, local newspaper East African Standard reported Friday.
Kenya Wildlife Service Chairman Colin Church attributed the achievement to concerted anti-poaching and controlled surveillance measures in the east African country.
The rhino population, especially the black species preferred bypoachers for its prized horns, used to drop to just over 100 by the late 1980s in Kenya.
"This prompted the government to import a few females of the species from South Africa into the (Kenya) Nakuru National Park to help in their reproduction," he said. Enditem
