Kinshasha: Armed Sudanese rebels poaching in Congo have driven the world's last northern white rhinos to near-extinction.
If unchecked, they could wipe out the Garamba National Park's rhinos in months, said Henri Paul Eloma, co-ordinator of a United Nations project to protect wildlife from the effects of war in Congo. Rebels were shooting rhinos and elephants for their horns and tusks.
Fighters from a separate conflict in northern Sudan are also poaching in Garamba. - Reuters
