Uganda is to import two white rhinoceroses from Kenya in a bid
to reintroduce the rare species which is extinct in the country,
the Uganda Tourist Board (UTB) said. Uganda's black and white rhinos
became extinct as a result of widespread poaching in the 1970s.
The two rhinos will be introduced to Murchison Falls and Kidepo
National Parks north of the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
Ignatious Nakishero, marketing manager of UTB, said that the importation
of the two rhino this month is a trial operation prior to the introduction
of further rhino into the country's other game parks.
