Rising Poaching Undermines Case At Cites
LAST week's poaching of four black rhinos in an Intensive
Protection Zone in the Sinamatela area of Hwange National Park
will further undermine government's standing in regard to the
Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
(CITES).

Red alert over rare species
The well-known "Red List" that details which species are
threatened with extinction is inaccurate, according to a new
assessment. It concludes the list fails to reflect the true threat to
species, by not taking full account of the threat posed by people.

Slaughtered to the Brink of Extinction
UP TO 40% of the animals enjoying the protection of Zimbabwe's
national parks have been slaughtered or removed for sale to
foreign countries. In some cases, game has been sold with the
knowledge and co-operation of national parks board officials.

4. Donor Appreciation
SOS RHINO wishes to acknowledge the following individuals, organizations, and
foundations for their generous support of our programs. Their support comes
in many forms: donation of their expertise and time, funds for specific programs
and equipment, and donation of products. THANK YOU!

SOS RHINO BORNEO
SOS Rhino is dedicated to protecting rhinos and their habitat. The
Bornean sub-species of the Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus
sumatrensis harrissoni) is one of the most endangered rhinos –
mainly due to habitat loss and poaching. There may be as few as
30 of this sub-species left in the wild and only two in captivity. With
large and varied habitat requirements, the protection of this animal
will further the conservation of other fauna and flora in the
ecosystem they inhabit.

6. Trivia Questions
1. True or False: There are less than 70 Javan rhinos alive today
2. Why has the white rhinoceros developed a wide, square lip?
3. Name the five (5) main rhino species surviving today.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. How You Can Help
Adopt a rhino, doc or keeper. Buy a t-shirt, hat, or video
There are only 300 Sumatran rhinos left on Earth. Without direct help from
generous humans, they may never be seen again. We urge you to give what you
can in the form of a donation – protect a rhino or adopt a rhino, doc,
researcher, keeper, or purchase one of SOS Rhino’s products: a T-shirt,
hat, or video. Visit today, and give from your heart.

Contribute to the “SOS Rhino Annelisa Memorial Fund”
SOS Rhino has established a memorial fund in Dr. Annelisa Kilbourn’s
name to help continue her work dedicated to the survival of the Sumatran rhino
in
Malaysia. Contributions can be made by clicking the button below or mailed
directly to SOS Rhino (checks should be made out to “SOS RHINO”)680

Volunteer
SOS RHINO is looking for volunteers interested in helping us in our efforts
to save the Sumatran rhinoceros. Our Borneo Team is studying the demographics
of the remaining animals in Tabin Wildlife Reserve to determine when patrol
units, habitat protection, or translocation may play a role in the rhinos'
survival. Read more:
